CPEC heading in right direction, says Chinese envoy

ISLAMABAD – New Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong said CPEC is heading in the right direction to bring prosperity and progress to Pakistan.

Nong Rong, China’s new ambassador to Pakistan, summoned Secretary Planning, Development and Private Initiatives Mathar Niaz Rana on Tuesday. Bilateral relations projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and issues related to the progress of the upcoming 10th GCC were discussed. Additional Secretary Planning and senior officials attended the meeting. Speaking on this incident, Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong said that CPEC is moving in the right direction. CPEC is a product of the vision of two sister countries that reflect the strong bilateral cooperation ties of the decade and go beyond traditional business deals that reflect a win-win situation for all and shared goals. He emphasized that the project will continue to progress at an accelerated pace.

Secretary Planning said on the occasion that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important national project for Pakistan, which will be a harbinger of development and prosperity for Pakistan and the region.

The secretary said Pakistan, in consultation with the Chinese government, has managed to expand its scope to include other priority areas, including socio-economic development, poverty alleviation, agricultural and industrial cooperation. The Secretary stated that the second phase will focus on outreach projects for the good of the Pakistani people and we thank the Chinese Government for expanding its framework to contribute to Pakistan’s sustainable development. The Secretary reiterated that the government remains committed to realizing the potential and opportunities under the CPEC framework. The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the JWG meetings held for various sectors in recent weeks.
