ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Quetta Gladiators have signed World Twenty20 winner Umar Gul as the bowling coach of the team going to HBL PSL 2021.
Wright Armor Omar, once considered one of the best T20 bowlers of all time, will replace legendary all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised objections to national coaches and provincial head coaches Decided against issuing letter. This is stated in a press release issued here.
Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar said he was happy to sign Omar. “Omar will bring a wealth of experience. His appointment will be very useful for the choice of Muhammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah and Usman Shinwari.
“They [Umar] Ruled the T20 format for years so we can’t call for a better alternative. It’s like a family member returning to the team. I would also like to thank Razzaq for his extraordinary services over the years.
The 36-year-old played 47 Tests, 130 ODIs and 60 T20 Internationals for Pakistan and took 163, 179 and 85 wickets respectively.
He represented the Gladiators in the first two seasons of the PSL. Gladiators head coach Moin Khan is confident that the move will be beneficial for the team.
“We looked at both local and foreign options and felt that age would be the best choice for us because of our understanding of modern cricket,” he said. He dominated the best players in the world in T20 so he will be the best guide for our bowling group.
“I also want Razzaq to wish him well for his future responsibilities as he has done a great service to the team.”
Omar, meanwhile, said he could not wait to go with the Gladiators.
“I am very happy to be one of the best PSL franchises in Quetta Gladiators. They have some amazing young bowlers and I can’t wait to work with them. I want to thank Nadeem Omar and Moin Khan for believing in me and giving me this vast opportunity.
