Government decides to investigate the broadsheet case

The federal government has decided to investigate the broadsheet case.

According to sources, a committee comprising Accountability Advisor Shehzad Akbar, Federal Ministers Shibli Faraz, Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar has been formed in the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to investigate the broadsheet issue.

The committee will review the agreement with Broadsheet from 2002 to 2018 and investigate who tried to take advantage of the issue.

Sources said that during the meeting, the Prime Minister likened the benefits of Broadsheet to NRO.

It may be recalled that former President Pervez Musharraf had hired the services of a British firm on assets recovery in 1999 to trace the properties of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Benazir Bhutto and others.

However, the agreement was terminated by NAB in 2003 against which the firm had filed a case against NAB in the arbitration court on which the court had ruled against NAB in August 2016 and ordered it to pay a fine.

In recent days, more revelations have come to light regarding the Broadsheet case, after which it has been decided to investigate the matter.
