Meeting of Advisory Committee for release of NGMS spectrum held in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh chaired the Advisory Committee meeting for the launch of the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum, held in Pakistan in the Department of Finance.

Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Amin ul Haque, Prime Minister Trade Advisor Abdul Razak Dawood, PTA Major General (R) Azeem Bajwa, Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Managing Director Frequency Allocation Board and other top senior officials attended the meeting.

PTA President briefed the Advisory Committee on the latest developments in sales of the current range of next-generation mobile services in the country. The Minister of Finance stated that while he appreciated the sale of the maximum spectrum possible, it would contribute to overall economic growth and improve the quality of broadband services in Pakistan through digitization.

The committee was also informed that the recruitment process of the consultants was completed in December 2020 as required by the procedure, and that the newly recruited consultants were on board for the sale of the current range during the current financial year.

The Finance Minister urged the consultants to take a proactive approach and to effectively meet deadlines. He emphasized that time is of the essence in the launch of NGMS Spectrum and the entire process of an auction must be transparent to strengthen and expand communication / IT Services across the country. The next follow-up meeting of the Advisory Committee is expected in March 2021.
